Swirling Floral Cake

These simple swirl flowers are even easier because you make them in advance with royal icing. They'll keep for weeks and will be ready to place on your freshly iced cake.

Cake serves about 20.

Step 1

Step 1: Make Drop Flowers In Advance

At least 2 days before decorating cake, make tip 2D rose royal icing swirl drop flowers with tip 3 ivory dot centers on waxed paper-covered cake board (60 flowers were used for this project—make additional in case of breakage). Allow to dry completely.

Step 2

Step 2: Prepare Cake

Bake your favorite 2-layer cake recipe or mix in round pan. Cool cake in pan on wire rack 10 minutes. Remove from pan and cool completely. Wrap cake circle with foil. Arrange cake on prepared cake circle.

Step 3

Step 3: Decorate

Spatula ice cake fluffy with ivory buttercream icing. Add tip 21 shell bottom border. Press flowers onto border; press additional flowers individually and in clusters on cake top and sides.
