Mosaic Medley Cake

Mosaics have been a favorite form of artwork internationally for centuries. The intricate patterns of tiles in so many hues represent expert craftsmanship . Now, these same old and new world designs can be duplicated on cakes using rolled fondant and silicone molds for shaping. Decorating doesn't get much easier!

Step 1

Step 1: Bake The Cake

Bake your favorite 2-layer cake recipe or mix in oval pan following recipe instructions. Cool in pan on cooling grid 15 minutes; remove from pan and cool completely. Cut cake board to shape of pan; cover with Fanci-Foil. Stack layers on prepared cake board. Prepare cake for fondant by lightly icing with buttercream.

Step 2

Step 2: Cover Cake with Rolled Fondant

Tint 24 oz. white fondant ivory; roll out 1/8 in. thick. Cover cake with fondant.

Step 3

Step 3: Make Fondant Border

Dust Global Designs Gum Paste & Fondant Mold with cornstarch. Press blue fondant into triangle border portion of prepared mold. Carefully remove from mold and attach to cake bottom border with damp brush. Repeat to wrap completely around the cake.

Step 4

Step 4: Decorate The Cake

Dust Global Designs Gum Paste & Fondant Mold with cornstarch. Press blue, marbled blue and brown fondant into prepared mold cavities. Carefully remove from molds and attach to cake with damp brush.
