Gingham Ribbon Cake

Quilled Cake and Cookie Topper

Serves about 15.


Step 1

Step 1: Prepare the Cake

Bake your favorite 2-layer cake recipe or mix in 8 in. round pan. Cool cake in pan on cooling grid 10 minutes. Remove from pan and cool completely. Wrap cake circle with Fanci-Foil wrap. Arrange cooled cake layers on prepared cake board. Ice cake with blue tinted buttercream icing.

Step 2

Step 2: Decorate Cake Sides

With Slide-N-Cut Edge Cutter, cut 1-1/2 in. wide x height of cake strips of Bright Blue and Blue Dots Sugar Sheets. Keep covered. Using Border Punch with Scallop Cutting Insert, punch scallop along one side of Blue Dots strips. Attach single blue strip between 2 blue dot scalloped strips around cake sides, using piping gel if needed.

Step 3

Step 3: Make Cake Bow Topper

With Slide-N-Cut Edge Cutter, cut 1 in. wide x 8 in. long strips of Bright Blue and Blue Dots Sugar Sheets. Using Border Punch with Scallop Cutting Insert, punch scallop along one side of strips. Brush loop ends with piping gel and pinch together. Lay on flat sides to dry. Arrange loops on top of cake.

Step 4

Step 4: Punch Cake Border

Using Punch Set with Oval cutting insert, punch about 30 Bright Blue oval pieces. Brush short end of oval with piping gel; loop, pinching ends together. Tuck into cake on cake circle border; arrange second layer of looped ovals around cake base.
