The cardboard rounds that are used inside of a tiered cake for stability don't need to be covered in anything, unless they're visible from outside the cake. Don't use parchment paper to cover visible cake boards because they are meant to have a slick, nonstick finish that could cause your cake to slide. Stick to foil, or Fanci-Foil, which is food safe wrapping paper for your cake boards.
