How do I get a lilac color on the icing by mixing icing colors because I always get a dark purple?

Diana - from Aguascalientes, mexico

A little bit of the icing color goes a long way. Start really slow with the coloring because you can always add more, but you can’t subtract. Dip a toothpick or the very tip of a knife or spatula into the coloring then mix that into your icing. Add more as needed in the same fashion. Be patient. This method will take more time, but it’ll produce a more pastel color. My favorite lilac color comes from the combination of violet with a tiny bit of rose. Rose will also help to preserve the color of the icing as well. Light tends to fade color and the red tones are the first to go. Sometimes this can happen even overnight. The added rose will assure you'll have a nice lilac color for as long as possible!
