Dear Nancy, is it necessary to use royal icing for drop flowers or any kind of things you want to do?

Flat flowers and decorations - like drop flowers, stars and leaves - can be made from either royal or buttercream icing.  Roses also can be made from both types of icing.  Flowers with finer shaped petals - like petunias and lilies - are best made with royal icing.
