What is the best way to adhere fondant decorations to buttercream icing?

Most 1- and 2-dimensional fondant decorations will adhere to buttercream icing when simply pushed into the icing.  If the decoration is too heavy and falls off, add additional buttercream icing to the decoration and press into the cake surface.
