Can I add cake flour to a boxed cake mix?

Adding additional flour to a boxed cake mix would also require that you add additional wet ingredients and eggs to compensate. Unless you are following a recipe that includes additions to all of the ingredients, do not add additional flour to a boxed cake mix.
