My daughter wants a chocolate cake for her birthday. What is the difference between Devil's Food, German Chocolate and a regular chocolate cake?

Tiffany - from Round Rock, TX

The difference is the amount of and type of chocolate, as well as the amount of fat in the cake.

• Devil's Food cake has more chocolate and uses a richer, darker chocolate variety. This causes the cake to be slightly higher in fat, as well.
• German Chocolate cake is made with German chocolate – named after it's creator, Samuel German, who thought it would be more convenient for bakers to have a chocolate where the sugar was already added to it. It is sweeter than semi-sweet chocolate and contains a blend of chocolate liquor, sugar, cocoa butter. German chocolate cake is a rich American-style two layer cake filled and iced with cooked coconut-pecan frosting.
• Chocolate cake is not as rich or intensely chocolate as Devil's Food cake.
