If a project calls for a 2-layer cake, we mean that you should bake 2 cake layers in the size pan indicated, cool the cake, then stack with a filling between it. This will usually create a cake that is about 4-inches high. You can then decorate as indicated, either spatula iced with buttercream icing, crumb-coated with buttercream icing and covered in fondant or any other way we suggest in the project instructions.
