How can i make royal icing or a good icing to frost a cake? I use a storebought buttercream but i want to learn to make my own to save money.

Royal Icing is not typically used to ice cakes because it dries completely hard. It is a great icing for cookies and and for making decorative flowers.

Buttercream is the classic icing for covering cakes. It's delicious, and it's very easy to make. We have several variations of buttercream icing recipes, but here is the basic to get you started:
