I have been asked to make my uncle's 3-tier wedding cake. What type of cake would be the best to help support the top layers without the layers sinking into each other?

Ruby - from Yorkton, Canada

In tiered cakes, it's not the cake but the proper supports – the dowel rods, cake circles or boards and separator plates – used in the correct places, that will keep the whole structure from toppling over. Any favorite cake of the bride and groom will work! For step-by-step instructions for a variety of tiered cake "looks", check our website. Even the most involved "construction" methods can be done in a few simple steps and will assure that your cake will stand tall and securely on your celebration day.
