What can be used instead of vegetable shortening in the buttercream icing recipe?

You can use butter or margarine to make the buttercream icing.  It might be a bit softer than made with the vegetable shortening, but you can use an extra tablespoon of confectioners’ sugar.  You should also make sure the cake is kept cook and out of direct sunlight, as buttercream made with butter or margarine melts more easily.
