If you use butter instead of vegetable shortening to make buttercream icing, does the cake need to be refrigerated after decorating? Karen.

Unless it is warm and humid, the iced cake can be kept at room temperature for 2-3 days, even when the buttercream is made with butter only. Be sure to keep the cake stored out of direct sunlight.
