The icing color alone would not usually make this happen, it sounds like the fondant had dried out - possibly the air was too dry when you were working with it. When you notice fondant drying out, knead in a small amount of vegetable shortening into the fondant to moisten it and make it more pliable. Also, to make rolled fondant adhere to dummy cakes, we suggest brushing the dummy lightly with piping gel or water – this will make the fondant "stick" to the "cake."
