I had a hard time trying to make a simple bow out of fondant for a birthday cake. It would not hold its shape, even when I put clear wrap inside of it to hold it up. How do get the bow to hold its shape? Should I use buttercream icing or cream cheese icing when using fondant?

Fondant decorations dry more quickly when a little bit of Gum Tex is kneaded into the fondant before shaping. After shaping, the pieces of the bow need time to firm up and dry before applying to your cake. Here are some easy-to-follow instructions for making a multi-looped bow.

Fondant decorations can be used on buttercream icing or cream cheese icing, but remember that cream cheese icing needs to be refrigerated, which can cause fondant to weep. If you're icing your cake in cream cheese icing, put the fondant decorations on at the last minute.
