How many cups of batter are in a made from scratch 3 layer cake?

Well, it depends on the size of the cake layers you are making.  For example, the amount of batter needed for 10" round layers will be different from the amount needed for 8" square layers.  In general, an average 2-layer cake mix yields 4 to 5 1/2 cups of batter.  For further information, check out our Baking Time and Batter Amounts reference guide at http://www.wilton.com/cakes/making-cakes/.
